Silicone-Based Emulsion Defoamer
Catalyst SAF 505
High-Performance Industrial Antifoam
A silicone-based high-performance emulsion defoamer developed for general industrial use. SAF 710 delivers excellent defoaming durability and alkali resistance across a wide range of foaming systems — from wastewater treatment to distillation columns and boiler systems — with superior dilution stability and ease of integration.
Engineered for demanding industrial environments where foam control, process compatibility, and operational reliability are critical.
Silicone-based mechanism delivers immediate foam knockdown with sustained suppression activity, reducing re-dosing frequency and lowering total chemical cost across extended process runs.
Effective across pH 6.0–8.0 with excellent alkali resistance. Stable performance at elevated temperatures makes SAF 710 suitable for boiler systems, distillation columns, and hot industrial processes.
Only 30–150 grams per metric ton of foamer required in most systems. Ultra-low active dosage reduces chemical inventory, handling requirements, and overall process cost.
Dilutes readily with water at 1:10 ratio. Exceptional dilution stability ensures consistent performance in pre-diluted dosing systems. Diluted product remains effective for up to 8 hours.
Maintains defoaming performance under high-temperature and high-shear conditions typical of industrial processing. Resists emulsion breakdown in agitated systems.
Non-ionic emulsifier system provides excellent compatibility with wastewater treatment chemicals, agrochemical formulations, paper process additives, and cutting oil systems.
In industrial processing — whether in a wastewater treatment plant, a distillation column, a paper mill, or an agrochemical mixing vessel — foam is more than a nuisance. Uncontrolled foam reduces throughput, disrupts level control instrumentation, causes product carryover into downstream equipment, creates safety hazards around hot systems, and forces operators into manual interventions that add labour cost and process downtime.
Silicone antifoams like SAF 710 operate at a fundamentally different mechanism than mineral oil or fatty alcohol-based defoamers. The low surface tension of Polydimethylsiloxane (~21 mN/m vs ~30–40 mN/m for process liquids) allows rapid spreading at the gas-liquid interface, destabilising foam films at the molecular level. This means activity at far lower dosage — 30 to 150 g per metric tonne — compared to non-silicone alternatives.
Many industrial processes — particularly in paper & pulp, wastewater treatment, and certain agrochemical applications — operate in mildly to moderately alkaline conditions. SAF 710's silicone backbone is chemically stable under alkaline conditions where organic defoamers degrade, losing activity over time. This stability translates directly to longer defoaming persistence and lower replacement dosing frequency.
SAF 710 is designed for both direct dosing and pre-diluted feed systems. At 1:10 dilution with cool water, it integrates easily with automated chemical dosing pumps. For hot systems, pre-dilution is recommended to ensure uniform distribution before the emulsion encounters elevated temperatures.

Catalyst SAF 505 delivers proven foam control across heavy industrial, chemical processing, and environmental applications.

WATER TREATMENT AND ETP INDUSTRY

FERMENTATION AND DISTILLERY INDUSTRY
Catalyst SAF 505 is validated for foam control in these critical industrial process points.
Wastewater Aeration Tanks
Controls foam in activated sludge systems and aerobic biological treatment where surfactants and proteins create persistent foam during aeration. Effective in both ETP and STP operations.
Industrial Distillation
Suppresses foam in distillation reboilers, column sumps, and overhead condensers. Critical in chemical and petroleum refining operations where foam causes tray flooding and product carryover.

Foam control in heavy industrial processes is not merely an operational convenience — it is a process-critical requirement that directly impacts throughput, safety, instrumentation reliability, and product quality. Catalyst SAF 710 is a silicone-based high-performance emulsion defoamer engineered to deliver reliable, long-lasting foam suppression across a broad range of industrial applications, from municipal wastewater treatment plants to petrochemical distillation columns and industrial boiler systems.
Wastewater treatment — particularly biological treatment involving activated sludge, aerobic digestion, or nutrient removal — is one of the most foam-intensive industrial processes. The combination of surfactant-laden influent, aggressive aeration, and biological metabolic products creates dense, persistent foam that can overwhelm clarifiers, block air diffusers, and interfere with level measurement instrumentation. SAF 710 as a wastewater defoamer is effective at dosages as low as 30 g per metric ton, providing both antifoam (preventive) and defoam (curative) action in ETP and STP systems.
Industrial distillation operations face foam formation at tray decks, in column sumps, and in overhead condensers — particularly in systems processing crude fractions or fermentation-derived products containing natural surfactants. Foam in distillation causes tray flooding, product carryover, and off-specification output. In boiler feed water systems, surface-active contaminants can induce foam leading to priming, carryover of water droplets into steam lines, and water hammer incidents. SAF 710's excellent heat and shear stability makes it the defoamer of choice for these thermally demanding applications.
In paper mill operations — from kraft pulping to coating colour preparation — foam is a persistent challenge that wastes chemical inputs, causes sheet defects, and disrupts continuous web formation. SAF 710's non-ionic emulsifier system provides compatibility with the wide range of anionic and cationic chemicals used in paper manufacturing without adversely affecting retention, drainage, or paper formation. In agrochemical formulation, SAF 710 controls foam during the preparation of emulsifiable concentrates, suspension concentrates, and water-dispersible granules.
